Alberto Callaspo - 2B

Who?

If you missed out on the Aaron Hill/Orlando Hudson/Marco Scutaro sweepstakes...

OR

If you drafted Dan Uggla/Alexei Ramirez/Kelly Johnson and are sick of waiting around...

You need to pick up Alberto Callaspo. While the success of the Royals and particularly Zach Greinke is not going unnoticed...this guys is (owned in 46% of CBSsportsline leagues and only 19% of ESPN leagues.)

Here's what you need to know:
  • Starting at 2B (played 48 games at SS last year so may have dual eligibility in some leagues)
  • hit safely in 24 of 29 games
  • He's a doubles machine (13 already vs. 19 singles)
  • He turned 26 in April (if you're into that sort of thing)
His BABIP (batting average on balls in play) is a little high at 0.351 but his 0.327 last year in 74 games in the show along with a 0.350 career in the minors makes me believe he shouldn't undergo a huge downward correction here.

If you are in a league that penalizes strikeouts you have to LOVE his 1.43 BB/K ratio in the bigs this year. Again, looking at his career numbers this guy has always walked more than he Ks. His 93.4% contact rate is only outmatched by Scutaro, Span, and Eckstein.

I could throw more stats at you but I think you get the point...if you need help at 2B pick this guy up. If you are in a keeper league you want this guy for the long term.
